All eyes in the golf world were staring square at TPC Sawgrass this week, the tournament host of The Players Championship. That was until Tiger Woods once again stole the spotlight.
Unfortunately, it was for an awful reason.
Woods took to social media Tuesday to announce the news that he recently sustained a partial tear of his Achilles.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon. ‘The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,’ added Dr. Stucken.”

“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
This is devastating news for Woods’ return to golf, and golf fans alike. The only light at the end of the tunnel was that the surgery was reportedly a success.
Nevertheless, Woods’ return to the PGA in 2025 is on ice. At this point, it is sadly becoming worth asking whether golf fans will get to see the ‘Big Cat’ on Tour anytime in the foreseeable future.
This is a developing story with more to follow.
