‘Harry Potter’ Reboot Series Has Reportedly Found its Professor McGonagall

The “Harry Potter” series is currently coming together, as the new take on the “boy who lived,” is set to take a deeper dive into the books via a new series for Max. So far, casting has been slow-moving, but there appears to be another high-profile star joining the series.

It was revealed that John Lithgow had been cast as Professor Dumbledore, and now he is joined by another star. Breaking news and rumor mill My Time to Shine Hello has revealed that an “Ozark” star has now been cast as the fan-favorite Professor McGonagall.

According to the post on X, “Ozark” star Janet McTeer has been cast as the fan-favorite witch that was portrayed in live action by Maggie Smith.

Despite McGonagall being a bit more of a minor character as the movies went on, she was nonetheless one of the most beloved in the entire saga. Now, McTeer will reportedly get the chance to bring the character to life once again.

The new “Harry Potter” reboot series will take a much bigger look at the books that were written by J.K. Rowling.

“This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content about the project, which he also assured fans would be “a faithful adaptation.”

What has yet to be revealed is who will be playing the titular Harry Potter, Ron, and Hermoine. Deadline revealed that the last casting announcement was the kids would have to be in the age range of 9 to 11 by April 2025.

Daniel Radcliffe was 11 when he was cast as Harry Potter in the original films, with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, were 10 and 12, respectively.

Though the “Harry Potter” series has yet to reveal most of the major casting, the rumors are the series is set to start filming this summer. Lithgow as Dumbledore is the only known major casting, and McTeer has yet to be confirmed.

Despite the rumor, McTeer was fantastic in “Ozark,” as she portrayed the enigmatic drug cartel lawyer, Helen Pierce. McTeer has also appeared in “The Old Man,” “Kaos,” “The Menu,” and more.

The hope is she can showcase the same kind of beloved nature that Smith held as Professor McGonagall.
