On Monday, March 3, Valerie Bertinelli penned a lengthy Instagram post about her surprising split from Mike Goodnough, whom she dated for 10 months in 2024. Bertinelli, 64, wrote the post on the one-year anniversary of the day that she and Goodnough first met.
“I am irreversibly changed by him for the better. I know I am becoming a much stronger and more benevolent human for having met him and spent time with him,” the actress said. The celebrity chef went on to say that she feels “lucky” to have “gotten to know” Goodnough and that she cherishes the conversations they’ve had.

Along with her post, Bertinelli included a selfie of her and Goodnough snuggling into one another, likely taken during their relationship. In the caption, she also suggested that her Instagram followers subscribe to his “Hoarse Whisperings” Substack.
“Thank you, Mike, we may no longer be a couple, but you’ll always hold a very special place in my heart. Love you,” her post concluded.
Bertinelli previously opened up about her relationship in an interview with USA Today.
“I’ve met someone. And I’m incredibly grateful for him. It’s unlike any relationship that I’ve ever experienced with a man. I don’t want to say too much, but I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have met him, because I wasn’t expecting it,” she told the outlet in March 2024, also calling him “very special.”
However, by November 2024, People magazine reported that Bertinelli and Goodnough had split. While it’s unclear exactly what might have caused the breakup, Bertinelli had previously noted that the two were living on opposite coasts, making their relationship difficult.
Bertinelli was previously married to Eddie Van Halen from 1981 through 2007, and to Tom Vitale from 2011 through 2022. The cookbook author is a mom to one son, Wolfgang Van Halen, whom she welcomed in 1991.
