Details about the various modes and the game’s release date are going to be revealed down the line, but we do know that it will have Pokémon Home connectivity, allowing you to transfer your own Pokémon into the game. As for development, Game Freak are responsible for the planning of the game, while development is being carried out by The Pokémon Works.
Something like this has been requested by fans for a long time and it’s possible that Champions will become the new home for competitive formats for VGC once the game is up and running. This would allow for a wider variety of formats than the main series games do, adding a lot more variety to competitive while still keeping the core idea of the format.
This comes alongside a host of Pokémon Day announcements like the new Pokémon TCG Pocket set and the latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
