Lions Dominate Jaguars, Pull Off Incredible Feat For First Time Since 2007 Patriots

Jared Goff

The Detroit Lions dominated in their Week 11 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars earning a 52-6 victory Sunday. Along with a commanding win, the Lions became the first team to score a touchdown on each of their first seven drives of a regular season game since the 2007 New England Patriots.

Jared Goff continues to make a good case to be an MVP candidate. Goff became the only quarterback in NFL history to have multiple games with 400-plus passing yards and a 158.3 passer rating.

Goff finished the matchup completing 24 of 29 passes, 412 yards, and four touchdowns. His final stat line is undeniably at the MVP caliber.

The Lions handed Jacksonville its worst loss in franchise history, surpassing the 44-point loss the Jaguars suffered to Detroit in 1995. There is much speculation regarding the job security of Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson following the decisive victory from Detroit.

Lions safety Kerby Joseph earned his 15th career interception Sunday, tying for most picks a Detroit player has logged through their first three seasons.

Detroit is currently on a remarkable path in 2024. Like the 2007 Patriots, the Lions have had an unforgettable regular season thus far.

The 2007 season in New England featured Tom Brady winning his first NFL MVP award. Brady threw 50 passing touchdowns that season. All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss came to New England for the 2007 campaign and caught 23 receiving touchdowns, an NFL record.

The Patriots beat the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Championship, but ultimately fell short as the New England squad lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

Although the Lions won’t be undefeated in the regular season like Brady’s Patriots in 2007, Detroit fans should have high hopes about the team winning a ring in 2024.

Last season, the Lions went as far as the NFC Championship but were knocked out by the San Francisco 49ers. Detroit has emerged as arguably the best team in the NFC for the 2024 campaign.

The Lions have won eight straight games, which is their longest winning streak in a single season since 1934. Detroit will face the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and the Green Bay Packers in the next three games. All of those matchups are likely going to end in the Lions’ favor.

The final two games of the season will be the toughest for the Lions as the team will have to beat the 49ers and Minnesota Vikings to conclude the regular season.
