The general public believes the Giants will pick one of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, or Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall selection.
But in The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner’s latest mock draft, he sees New York making an eyebrow-raising pick, with Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham.
“The Giants have spent the entire offseason trying to find veteran quarterbacks in the face of this rookie class, so this, too, could be a Sanders landing spot. But I have zero questions about Graham’s ability to help the Giants immediately,” Baumgardner wrote.
In this scenario, Miami QB Cam Ward goes to the Titans No. 1 overall and Hunter goes No. 2 to the Browns, leaving Sanders and Carter available. However, the Giants pass on both of them and beef up the defensive tackle room with Graham.
While it might be a surprise, given that he hasn’t been predicted to be picked by New York in most mock drafts, the Giants do need to add a complement to Dexter Lawrence. Adding Graham would bolster the positional room and give them one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL.
Graham has been commonly mocked to the Jaguars with the No. 5 overall selection, but that could leave Jacksonville with Carter available for taking, should this scenario play out.
In Baumgardner’s projections, Carter goes to New England and LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell is drafted by the Jaguars.
