16-Year-Old Dog Escapes to Freedom—Hysterics Over His Reaction When Caught

Dog pretends to hurt paw

A senior dog constantly testing his luck by sneaking out the front door has left viewers in stitches for the perfect acting performance he put on when his owner caught up.

Wanting to get a taste of freedom in his senior years, the 16-year-old dog always tries getting past his owner and out the front door while she tries putting on his harness to go for a walk. The anonymous owner told Newsweek this is a “very common occurrence.”

In her April 3 TikTok video posted to the account @ughicaved, the owner gave viewers a glimpse into what happens when her senior speed demon gets out of the apartment. He strutted down the hallway with his tail wagging and quickly looked back to see how far behind his owner was; when it didn’t satisfy him, he began to run faster.

The owner closed the gap, which forced her dog to throw in the towel. He stopped and turned around in defeat. But to avoid getting in trouble for running away, he assumed the position: paw up and put on the innocent face. He started faking that he hurt his paw.

The owner said she rolled her eyes when she saw her dog lift his paw, but then she laughed, noting how he is “so full of it.” And yet, she admits to being a pushover, falling for his performance every time.

“Even at 16 years old, he knows how to play the game,” she said. “But, of course, I act like it’s a devastating injury that must be healed immediately with treats.”

Within a week, the TikTok video amassed over 1.7 million views, more than 326,700 likes and almost 2,000 comments. People couldn’t stop laughing at the pup’s acting performance, with some viewers even falling and defending his theatrics.

“When he started the little gallop hop, I just know he was saying ‘Hehehe she’ll never catch me now,'” commented a viewer.

A second person wrote: “He didn’t act hurt. He had to get his paw off the flames he left on the floor.”

A third posted: “I can’t believe you caught him, I saw his wanted poster like a week ago.”

The owner added in the comment section: “He also claims to have lost his hearing, but can hear a cheese wrapper from across the apartment? Interesting …”
